New Service in the Ohio Valley

Accepting Grace is a local organization made up of a team of professionals in Christian education, special education, education, behavioral supports, and families with various developmental disabilities. Starting February 6, 2011, from 2:30-3:30 PM  they will be holding a special church service for families with children with developmental disabilities.

From their brochure:

“An alternative worship service where we dance, wiggle, and rest in God.”

What if my child is disruptive?

Everyone is welcome regardless of their acting out behavior. We have a “safe area” where individuals can rest and observe.

Are children accompanied?

Parents, grandparents, or caregivers are expected to join in the activities at Accepting Grace so the individual’s particular needs are met and they feel comfortable. This is a time for conversation and networking among adults.

Do I have to be a Methodist to come to Accepting Grace?

No. We welcome all faith traditions to our service.

Is there an age limit?

No. Our program is hands-on and craft-based. We play on the floor and dance.

Do I need to call in advance?

No. Just come. Please feel free to call if you have an questions or concerns.

“Come and join us on Sunday afternoons to hear a bible story, interact with therapeutic arts and crafts projects, and share communion in our friendly environment.

“Our program strongly supports children on the autism spectrum as well as individuals with other developmental disabilities. Individuals of all ages are welcome.

“The service will take place on the first Sunday of every month from 2:30-3:30 PM.”

The service is at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church.
