What works for my son…

won’t work for every child on the spectrum. Every child on the spectrum presents differently – different symptoms, different problems, different strengths. There is no singular best treatment for autism. I think that makes it all the more difficult to wade through the options, the research, the opinions to find what works for your own situation.

Some parents swear by medications, special diets, occupational therapy, applied behavior analysis, speech therapy, and the list does on and on. Other parents will tell you how those same options either didn’t work for their child or produced adverse results. For everything that has worked for a child on the spectrum, it has not worked for another. Autism is a huge word, a broad, encompassing word and so should our community be. At least, in my opinion. Really, we have enough on our plates without judging each other for what works or doesn’t work for our own situation.
