12 Days of Christmas (with autism)

The following is what happens when my little one sings the same song over and over and over… I start rewriting it to fit. I had to stretch in some places to make it fit, of course, but I had fun and wanted to share.

12 Days of Christmas (with Autism)

On the first day of Christmas, my lovely family…

Braved the mall to see Santa Claus (but never made it to the front of the line)

On the second day of Christmas, my lovely family…

Heard two singing dogs (who bark at everything the kids do)
and braved the mall to see Santa Claus.

On the third day of Christmas, my lovely family…

Went to three support group meetings (until the sitter called us home)
Heard two singing dogs
and braved the mall to see Santa Claus.

On the fourth day of Christmas, my lovely family…

Pulled four PECs of the schedule (who needs to get dressed anyway)
went to three support group meetings
Heard two singing dogs
and braved the mall to see Santa Claus.

On the fifth day of Christmas, my lovely family…

Had five big meltdowns (in the middle of the grocery store with everyone staring)
pulled four pecs off the schedule
went to three support group meetings
heard two dogs singing
and braved the mall to see Santa Claus.

On the Sixth day of Christmas, my lovely family…

Sang six Christmas Carols (several dozen times)
have five big meltdowns
pull four pecs off the schedule
went to three support group meetings
heard two dogs singing
and braved the mall to see Santa Claus

On the Seventh day of Christmas, my lovely family…

Baked seven kinds of cookies (and made a giant mess with flour),
sang six Christmas carols
had five big meltdowns
pulled four pecs off the schedule
went to three support group meetings
heard two dogs singing
and braved the mall to see Santa Claus.

On the Eighth day of Christmas, my lovely family…

Watched eight Christmas movies (even if they were all the same one)
baked seven kinds of cookies
sang six Christmas carols
had Five Big Meltdowns
pulled four pecs off the schedule
went to three support group meetings
heard two dogs singing
and braved the mall to see Santa Claus.

On the Ninth day of Christmas my lovely family…

Lined up Nine Christmas houses (in a perfect line),
watched eight Christmas movies
baked seven kinds of cookies
sang six Christmas Carols
had five big meltdowns
pulled four pecs off the schedule
went to three support group meetings
heard two dogs singing
and braved the mall to see Santa Claus

On the Tenth day of Christmas, my lovely family…

Bought Ten unbreakable ornaments (to replace the ones they broke)
lined up nine Christmas houses
watched eight Christmas movies
baked seven kinds of cookies
sang six Christmas carols
had five big meltdowns
pulled four pecs off the schedule
went to three support group meetings
heard two dogs singing
and braved the mall to see Santa Claus.

On the Eleventh day of Christmas, my lovely family…

went to eleven crazy parties (where I think my kids each grew a second head)
bought ten unbreakable ornaments
lined up nine Christmas houses
watched eight Christmas movies
baked seven kinds of cookies
sang six Christmas carols
had five big meltdowns
pulled four pecs off the schedule
went to three support group meetings
heard two dogs singing
and braved the mall to see Santa Claus.

On the Twelfth Day of Christmas, My lovely family…

Read 12 Social Stories (about how to deal with)
Went to 11 crazy parties (where we spent more time chasing the kids than being merry)
Bought 10 unbreakable ornaments (to replace the ones that got trampled)
Lined up 9 Christmas houses (heaven help you if you move them)
watched 8 Christmas movies (until we all dreamt of reindeer)
baked 7 kinds of cookies (and burnt every single one)
sang 6 Christmas Carols (fifty freakin times)
Had 5 big meltdowns (in the middle of the grocery store with everyone staring)
pulled 4 PECS off the schedule (cause no one would get dressed)
Went to 3 support group meetings (until the sitter up and quit)
Heard 2 singing dogs (who may need a new home soon)
and
braved the mall for a picture with Santa Claus (and never once made it to the front of the line)

Merry Christmas!
